The Office of Workforce Development and Training, Child Welfare Training Institute, is pleased to announce the third year of implementation of the internet based staff training program; Essential Learning now called Relias Learning.
A group of internal and external stakeholders reviewed the courses we had this last year, all Essential/Relias Learning has to offer, and have come up with the 150 eLearning courses that are now available for you to complete this new year. We replaced some of the least popular courses and kept many of the popular courses like, “Calming Children in Crisis,” “Child Abuse,” and “Alcohol and the Family.” Courses like, “Hiring and Developing Staff,” are invaluable to our Private Agency partners as well as our DHS managers and supervisors.
This training program allows you to access valuable child welfare information on-demand, and complete in-service training hours without the hassle of travel. You simply take the course from anywhere you have an internet connection and complete it at your own pace. Some of the courses offer Continuing Education (CE) credit hours.
To get started, simply log on to OTP(JJOLT) and open the Essential Learning folder. Then click the link and you will be taken to your Essential Learning/Relias home page. Please click the “Start Guide Video” under Learner Resources, at the top of this page, for a detailed video on how to access the eLearning courses once you are in the site. You must pass a test at the end of every course with at least 80% in order for training hours to be credited to your transcript in OTP(JJOLT). You can access each course as many times as needed, but can only receive in-service training credit once per course. The average length of a course is approximately 1.5 hours.
We are excited about this new year of this eLearning program. We hope that you will find the convenience of the system, and the variety of courses offered, helpful in meeting your professional development goals.
*When a conflict between a course of action recommended in these training courses and DHS policy or applicable law arises, DHS policy or applicable law must always be followed.*
